HIQA has developed the Draft National Standards for Children’s Social Services, and these standards have been submitted for Ministerial approval. The aim of these standards is to increase the quality and safety of care for all children who are at risk in the community or who are living away from their families in the care of the State, regardless of their needs or stage of development. A draft assessment judgement framework and associated guidance have also been submitted by HIQA to the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth. It has been agreed that additional guidance is needed for foster carers and this work has commenced.
