129. To ask the Taoiseach and Minister for Defence if he will support and facilitate a Dáil debate on the independent review group established in 2021 to examine and report on matters relating to recommendations for military medals relating to events at Jadotville; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Independent Review Group (IRG) report was significant in its scope and findings. It made a number of recommendations in respect of the issue of award of medals, honouring the role of families and the support they provided to veterans and in respect of veterans affairs. The Deputy may wish to note that, with one exception, the IRG did not recommend the award of any further medals.
I am satisfied the matter has been comprehensively considered by the IRG and as such there are no plans to commence a process of further engagement.
