I propose to take Questions Nos. 38 and 39 together.

The Defence Forces are responsible for the allocation of accommodation in each installation. This is managed by the military authorities, and as such, my Department is not directly involved, nor would it have the information requested. The military authorities have been requested to provide the material and while this could not be compiled in time I am advised that a response to the Deputy will be provided in the near future.

A consultant was appointed by the Defence Forces in December 2023 in order to carry out this review and my officials have provided observations on an early draft of this report. The final draft is expected within my Department in the coming weeks who will report to me on the proposed course of action.

My Department has engaged with local authorities in relation to the transfer of appropriate property holdings outside of barracks that are no longer required for military purposes and that could form part of the general housing stock available to local authorities. A number of properties have previously been transferred and my Department remains open to transferring vacant housing units to the relevant housing authorities, on a similar basis when they become available.
