The Good Agricultural Practice for the Protection of Waters (GAP) Regulations (SI No.113 of 2022, as amended) set out maximum limits for the application of chemical Nitrogen (N) and Phosphorus (P) to land under various scenarios.

Based on the limited information outlined, it is not possible for my Department to confirm the amount of fertiliser that can be applied in this specific case.

However, my Department has published tools on www.gov.ie/nitrates to aid a farmer in making the necessary calculations so they can identify the maximum allowable N and P that can be applied.

Alternatively, I recommend this farmer should contact an accredited Farm Advisory Service (FAS) advisor who will be able to help them calculate the allowances specific to their own personal circumstances.
