Question 350: To ask the Minister for Health and Children if he will introduce a scheme whereby grants can be made available to communities throughout the country to allow for the purchase of defibrillators, equipment and so on and also allow communities to train volunteers in CPR, heart saver AED and cardiac first response courses. My Department does not propose to introduce a scheme for grants to be made available for the purchase of defibrillators or other such equipment. The Health Service Executive (HSE) were tasked with the responsibility for the implementation of the Task Force Report on Sudden Cardiac Death and provided guidance and advice on the development of cardiac first responder programmes. They instigated resuscitation training through a number of programmes along with partner organisations to ensure that a range of different sectors throughout the population were adequately trained in both CPR and AED usage.
