My Department has contributed to the EU Commission consultations on land use, land use change and forestry in the context of the EU greenhouse gas emissions debate through the submission in December 2010 of Ireland's response to the EU Commission's public consultation on the role of EU agriculture and forestry in achieving the EU's climate change commitments. At Ireland's request, a bi-lateral meeting was subsequently held at senior official level with the EU Commission on this issue and further bi-lateral engagement is intended. My Department is also fully engaged with the EU Commission at technical expert level on the issue of land use, land use change and forestry on an on-going basis.
