The Memorandum of Understanding on Specific Economic Policy Conditionality related to the EU/IMF Programme of Financial Support to Ireland includes a commitment to legislate for the appointment of an independent regulator of the legal profession. My Department is currently considering the implications of this commitment, if any, for the appointment of the Legal Services Ombudsman, the recruitment process for which, is well underway.
