This Government is committed to addressing the supply of more affordable student accommodation for priority group students, in line with policy commitments set out in the National Access Plan (NAP). The NAP aims to support inclusion and diversity in the student body, address the wider struggles and challenges for students, and deliver sustainable progress. It recognises the needs of vulnerable learners, the most marginalised and those with special and additional needs. The plan targets and supports students who are socio-economically disadvantaged, including those who have experience of the care system and students from the Irish Traveller and Roma communities.

The Department's application to the Dormant Accounts Fund to provide €600,000 in funding to assist students from Traveller and Roma Communities, and care experienced students, with the cost of accommodation was approved in November 2023.

I am pleased to inform you that the specifics of the scheme have now been finalised. Applications can be made through the individual access offices in each of the participating colleges. The closing date for applications will be 18 October 2024.

Further information on the scheme can be found atwww.gov.ie/en/service/a8bd0-student-accommodation-assistance/.
