629. To ask the Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth for an update on his engagement with the relevant stakeholders, including foster families, on the proposed national standards for children’s social services; what future he envisages for the 2003 standards; what role will be there for foster families; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Department wish to acknowledge receipt of your question.
There has been on going communication and correspondence between this Department and HIQA with regard to the proposals put forward. This has resulted in significant review and analysis of the proposed standards by officials in the Department alongside other stakeholders.
Officials from my Department continue to engage with HIQA on their proposed Draft National Standards for Children's Social Services.
My officials in the Department have drafted a letter to HIQA outlining observations for further discussion including the future role for Foster Carers as being one of the fundamental pieces to the process and further meetings will take place to discuss in more detail.
This remains a priority for the Department and the Department officials continue to ensure it progresses.
