276. To ask the Minister for Housing, Planning, and Local Government to provide an update on plans to move all retained firefighters to a fortnightly pay cycle; if he can provide, in tabular form, details on each fire authority when they moved to a fortnightly cycle; when it is planned to be implemented for all outstanding; and if he will make a statement on the matter. My Department does not hold the detailed information requested related to payment process management within the local authority sector.

I understand that the transition to a fortnightly pay cycle is being coordinated by the Local Government Management Agency (LGMA) with the local authorities. Each local authority is working with an ICT systems supplier to implement the fortnightly payment cycle for retained firefighters in a timely fashion, notwithstanding technical issues that may need to be overcome in advance of full implementation across the sector.

My Department fully supports the move to fortnightly pay for all retained firefighters under the implementation of the 2023 WRC agreement. Taking account of the technical complexity and the due diligence required when making modifications to critical payment systems, the National Directorate for Fire & Emergency Management is supporting the LGMA and local authorities to progress this change as quickly as possible.
