161. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if he has plans to reduce the age for obtaining a HGV licence which is currently at 21; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21193/24]

In Ireland, a person must be 18 to obtain a C1 or C1E licence (trucks under 7,500kg) and 21 to obtain a C or CE licence (trucks over 3,500kg). The minimum age of 21 for C and CE may be lowered to 18 where the driver holds a certificate of professional competence (CPC). I have no plans at present to change this position.
