Question 481: To ask the Minister for Justice and Equality when the Courts Service will make a decision regarding Dunshaughlin Court House moving to the ownership of Meath County Council in order that its facilities can be of benefit to the community; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Under the provisions of the Courts Service Act 1998, management of the courts is the responsibility of the Courts Service which is independent in exercising its functions. However, in order to be of assistance to the Deputy, I have had enquiries made and have been informed that ownership of Dunshaughlin courthouse was never vested in the Courts Service and it has not used the courthouse since 2009. The courthouse was in the ownership of Meath County Council and a decision regarding the use of the property is not, therefore, a matter for the Courts Service.
