Question 634: To ask the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government the funding from his Department to each county and city council in respect of waste management services in the years 2003, 2004 and to date in 2005. [33891/05]

My Department does not in general provide funding for local authorities in respect of the provision of waste management services which are matters for individual authorities having regard to the polluter pays principle. Limited support for local authorities is provided from the environment fund, principally in respect of a contribution to the capital and operational costs of providing necessary recycling infrastructure. I am arranging to have a detailed breakdown compiled and it will be forwarded to the Deputy as soon as possible.
