Question 91: To ask the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources his response to the surplus of â¬6.8 million posted by RTE in 2004; the way in which the national broadcaster plans to spend this surplus over the next year; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19910/05]

It is positive that the financial position of RTE has improved to the extent that it has achieved modest surpluses in two successive years having incurred significant deficits of â¬46 million and â¬22 million in 2001 and 2002 respectively.
Under the Broadcasting Acts 1960 to 2001, it is a matter for RTE to decide how to use the financial resources available to it to best deliver on its statutory mandate.
