Order of Business
5:10 pm
Maurice Cummins (Fine Gael) | Oireachtas source
I do not intend to accept the amendment from the Senator from Roscommon.
Senator Walsh raised the Dublin and Monaghan bombings, which the Taoiseach has raised on a number of occasions with the British Government and will continue to do so. Senator O'Sullivan said Fianna Fáil is the leading party in local authorities, which it is. While I have congratulated all the members who have been elected, it is unlikely Sinn Féin will take up the Senator's offer in that regard. I am glad the lift in Charleville is finally under construction.
Senator Quinn raised offshore betting. The Gambling Control Bill has gone through Committee Stage in the other House and the Betting (Amendment) Bill will deal with offshore betting. It should be taxed. Independent bookmakers are suffering. Senator O'Brien has raised this matter on a number of occasions so perhaps we could debate the report on the Gambling Control Bill, which has been published by the justice committee in the House. As I said, I do not accept the amendment to the Order of Business.
