Public Accounts Committee: Appropriation Accounts 2023
Vote 13 - Office of Public Works
(22 Oct 2024)

Marc Ó Cathasaigh: The OPW is looking at Inishowen and my part of the world, Tramore.

Public Accounts Committee: Appropriation Accounts 2023
Vote 13 - Office of Public Works
(22 Oct 2024)

Marc Ó Cathasaigh: Sorry. I have a couple of questions on the contractors list in relation to a parliamentary question to which I received the answer yesterday. I refer to the contractors list and the criteria the OPW has set out where contractors are removed, including if they do not match the criteria in the application form. Reference is made to an application form including details such as insurance,...

Public Accounts Committee: Appropriation Accounts 2023
Vote 13 - Office of Public Works
(22 Oct 2024)

Marc Ó Cathasaigh: May I ask finally, were any contractors removed from the contractor list due to non-compliant procurement?

Public Accounts Committee: Appropriation Accounts 2023
Vote 13 - Office of Public Works
(22 Oct 2024)

Catherine Murphy: You might do that and come back to us. I want to go back on a couple of points. I raised the issue of the two Garda units in Clyde House. Obviously, the OPW is leasing that building. I understand that the building, or part of it, was repurposed. Is it known how long that lease is for?

Public Accounts Committee: Appropriation Accounts 2023
Vote 13 - Office of Public Works
(22 Oct 2024)

Catherine Murphy: Have there been complaints about the quality of the building that has been leased? I understand that some personnel are housed where there is no light or natural ventilation. I would not have thought that was the kind of standard that would be acceptable.

Public Accounts Committee: Appropriation Accounts 2023
Vote 13 - Office of Public Works
(22 Oct 2024)

Catherine Murphy: Okay, but you might just check that out. Does the OPW own the site beside Military Road, Walter Scott House? Do you know the site on the corner? It used to be where the compound for cars and so on was.

Public Accounts Committee: Appropriation Accounts 2023
Vote 13 - Office of Public Works
(22 Oct 2024)

Catherine Murphy: If you are coming down Military Road towards St. John's Road, on the right-hand side, just beyond Walter Scott House.

Public Accounts Committee: Appropriation Accounts 2023
Vote 13 - Office of Public Works
(22 Oct 2024)

Catherine Murphy: There is obviously potential for expansion there, rather than having facilities dotted all over the place. You might come back to me with that other information when you have it. As regards the national children's science museum, going back to 2008, I understand the operating income was likely to be trading income of 50%, philanthropy of 11% and government support of 39%. Is that ratio...

Public Accounts Committee: Appropriation Accounts 2023
Vote 13 - Office of Public Works
(22 Oct 2024)

Catherine Murphy: Yes, but it still will-----

Public Accounts Committee: Appropriation Accounts 2023
Vote 13 - Office of Public Works
(22 Oct 2024)

Catherine Murphy: May I stop you there? The operating side will not be for the OPW. My understanding is that it builds the core and then the museum does the fit-out and runs it. Is your understanding that the museum would require to fund the cost of running it, or is there intended to be a subvention from the Government on that?

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (22 Oct 2024)

Mattie McGrath: Where will the Taoiseach's credibility be now that he says he will have an election before year end? He told us all the time it would be at the end of term, which is next February or March. Now we will have a trapeze act with the Taoiseach, the Tánaiste and the Minister, Deputy O'Gorman, pulling the curtain down on this House. One of them might pull it faster than the other. When...

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (22 Oct 2024)

Thomas Pringle: I add our voice on the need to have the occupied territories Bill passed through the House. It is vitally urgent. It is time we went beyond rhetoric and took some actions to ensure the Bill is passed to hold Israel accountable for the slaughter it is carrying out.

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (22 Oct 2024)

Simon Harris: I am a little bit confused by Deputy McGrath. On the one hand, every day he wants me to call an election - "Get them out and have an election". The next day he is very upset we might have an election and it will be rushed.

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (22 Oct 2024)

Mattie McGrath: Bring it on anois.

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (22 Oct 2024)

Simon Harris: Thank you very much. We will reflect on your views and come back to you on it. There will be a general election shortly.

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (22 Oct 2024)

Danny Healy-Rae: Give us the date.

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (22 Oct 2024)

Simon Harris: The Deputies are here long enough to know that is not how it works at all. We have made it clear we will pass the Finance Bill and there will be an election.

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (22 Oct 2024)

Mattie McGrath: Trick or treating, I would say you were.

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (22 Oct 2024)

Simon Harris: It will take place this year and will be on a Friday. It does not take a genius to work that out.

An tOrd Gnó - Order of Business (22 Oct 2024)

Danny Healy-Rae: It will be the 29th.
