Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Engagement with Office of Public Works (25 Sep 2024)

Marc MacSharry: Definitely not. If you gave me 35 grand to do an aul MBA, I might stick around for a couple of years. Is coastal erosion under the remit of the OPW? The western seaboard, as we know, is rotting away because the weather is the way it is. I am in the Sligo area and there are big problems where I live in Strandhill. The fantastic head of public affairs at the OPW also lives there and I am...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Engagement with Office of Public Works (25 Sep 2024)

Marc MacSharry: Mr. Mooney would know if there was such an application. I know, for example, that Galway might make approximately 17 applications per year and Sligo might make six per year.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Engagement with Office of Public Works (25 Sep 2024)

Marc MacSharry: Rosses Point is also an issue. A village, Strandhill, has almost fallen into the sea on one side. On the other side is Sligo Golf Club and so on. There is a big issue there. An important place called Shelly Valley is under threat. It would be preferable for Mr. Mooney to give me a note on the issue. I worry that it is not going to be a local issue but a national issue. I am conscious-----

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Engagement with Office of Public Works (25 Sep 2024)

Marc MacSharry: I am concerned. Fianna Fáil has been draining the River Shannon since 1946. We have not got there yet. Mr. Mooney will send me a note on the issue. I thank him and I apologise.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Engagement with Office of Public Works (25 Sep 2024)

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Engagement with Office of Public Works (25 Sep 2024)

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Engagement with Office of Public Works (25 Sep 2024)

Marc MacSharry: May I make one point on that issue? It is good to hear from the chief architect, who does fantastic work. Our job, however, is not to praise the fantastic work. It is to call out the glitches. I agree with Mr. O'Connor that the problem is not systemic. When there are glitches, however, the practice of the State is to circle the wagons and blame it on systemic failure because we will not...

Joint Committee on the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Irish Speaking Community: Cur Chuige an Stáit i gCur Chun Cinn Chóras Gaeloideachais: An tAire Oideachais (25 Sep 2024)

Mairead Farrell: Tá sé iontach go bhfuil an deis againn labhairt leis an Aire Oideachais agus lena Roinn faoi chúrsaí éagsúla. Tá mé beagáinín faoi bhrú ama mar go bhfuil cruinniú eile ar siúl agam ag an am céanna ach bhí mé ag iarraidh cúpla rud a ardú leis an Aire. Táim ag iarraidh filleadh ar an gcreat don...

Joint Committee on the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Irish Speaking Community: Cur Chuige an Stáit i gCur Chun Cinn Chóras Gaeloideachais: An tAire Oideachais (25 Sep 2024)

Mairead Farrell: Má tá sé sin mar chuid den chlár Rialtais agus tá an Rialtas anseo le ceithre bliana go leith anuas, nach gciallaíonn sé sin go bhfuil an sprioc sin ag an Rialtas anois?

Joint Committee on the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Irish Speaking Community: Cur Chuige an Stáit i gCur Chun Cinn Chóras Gaeloideachais: An tAire Oideachais (25 Sep 2024)

Mairead Farrell: Níl mé ag rá nach bhfuil. Tá mé ag iarraidh an tuiscint sin a bheith agam maidir le céard go díreach a bhí i gceist ag an Aire. An bhfuil sí ag rá anois go mbeidh an Rialtas ag iarraidh an figiúr a dhúbailt ó dheireadh na bliana?

Joint Committee on the Irish Language, the Gaeltacht and the Irish Speaking Community: Cur Chuige an Stáit i gCur Chun Cinn Chóras Gaeloideachais: An tAire Oideachais (25 Sep 2024)

Mairead Farrell: Ní thuigim go díreach mar gheall go bhfuil clár Rialtais ann le cúig bliana anuas. Dúirt an tAire nach bhfuil an dréacht den pholasaí feicthe aici. Tuigim é sin. An mbeidh cineál sign-off ag an Aire ar an bpolasaí sin? Más rud é nach bhfuil na spriocanna ann, agus tá súil agam go mbeidh agus gach uile shórt mar...

Mairead Farrell: Tuigim é sin. Táim cinnte go mbeidh níos mó sonraí ann tar éis an phlé agus aiseolais a bhí ann, ach an tAire an duine a dhéanann an cinneadh, nach í?
