John Brady: Okay, well, I would suggest there is a failure then in terms of communicating if there is a low uptake, which certainly there is. We know where the homes are and they have been identified. I would, therefore, suggest a re-look at how that communication takes place.

Situation in the Middle East and the Occupied Palestinian Territories: Statements (18 Oct 2023)

John Brady: Once again, words fail to convey the sense of anguish and frustration that is felt not just here in Ireland but globally at the tragedy that is befalling the Palestinian people. The butcher's bill for Israel's ongoing campaign against Gaza continues to rise. To date, we can add the names of UN workers, journalists, nurses and doctors, and children to those thousands of Palestinians who...

Public Accounts Committee: Appropriation and Expenditure of Public Moneys by RTÉ (Resumed): Discussion (12 Oct 2023)

John Brady: I will start by saying that the way things are done in RTÉ around the culture is why we are here today. To my mind, lessons have not been learned if that is still the line that is being peddled here today around this so-called independent advice, that is, that is the way it has always been done and that is the culture within RTÉ. Lessons clearly have not been learned. The...

Public Accounts Committee: Appropriation and Expenditure of Public Moneys by RTÉ (Resumed): Discussion (12 Oct 2023)

John Brady: Has the Minister seen it?

Public Accounts Committee: Appropriation and Expenditure of Public Moneys by RTÉ (Resumed): Discussion (12 Oct 2023)

John Brady: Has the Minister requested it or seen it?

Public Accounts Committee: Appropriation and Expenditure of Public Moneys by RTÉ (Resumed): Discussion (12 Oct 2023)

John Brady: I find that fascinating. RTÉ has essentially come in here and over the last number of weeks has put the begging bowl out asking for a bailout from the taxpayer and from the Government, without this key piece of information. To my mind, without that key piece of information not a penny should be given over to RTÉ because that is the keystone in the evidence that we as the Committee...

Public Accounts Committee: Appropriation and Expenditure of Public Moneys by RTÉ (Resumed): Discussion (12 Oct 2023)

John Brady: Mr. Bakhurst has said that.

Public Accounts Committee: Appropriation and Expenditure of Public Moneys by RTÉ (Resumed): Discussion (12 Oct 2023)

John Brady: Okay. If that is the case, that information should be furnished from that Teams meeting. I find it extraordinary that neither the Department nor the Minister have asked for or received that information either.

Public Accounts Committee: Appropriation and Expenditure of Public Moneys by RTÉ (Resumed): Discussion (12 Oct 2023)

John Brady: This is about governance, however. It is about oversight. It is about restoring trust within RTÉ, showing that lessons have been learned and we have moved on. Without that openness and transparency coming from RTÉ as regards that critical piece of information, I do not think we are anywhere close to starting that process.

Public Accounts Committee: Appropriation and Expenditure of Public Moneys by RTÉ (Resumed): Discussion (12 Oct 2023)

John Brady: I will move on.

John Brady: I am sorry Mr. Bakhurst-----

Public Accounts Committee: Appropriation and Expenditure of Public Moneys by RTÉ (Resumed): Discussion (12 Oct 2023)

John Brady: Key information.

Public Accounts Committee: Appropriation and Expenditure of Public Moneys by RTÉ (Resumed): Discussion (12 Oct 2023)

John Brady: In fairness, that is Mr. Bakhurst's interpretation of it that it is not key. Unfortunately, we do not have the privilege to make that determination because it has been withheld from us. That is the problem.
