Michael Fitzmaurice: I will ask whether the witnesses agree with my analysis. Let us say I have a herd number for cattle or sheep. Before I get that, I must have a cattle crush and a proper shed. Is the same thing being applied in the horse industry? There are some places where I wonder whether they have the facilities at all for handling a horse.

The witnesses were saying welfare needs to be taken away from the Department of agriculture, but in fairness to the Department, with cattle, sheep and all that, it has regular inspections for different reasons for different schemes. Réada Cronin: The last time I attended this committee, the breeders and racecourse owners were before us. I spoke to them about a national retirement fund, and I know this group has also spoken to them about a retirement fund for thoroughbreds. Has My Lovely Horse Animal Rescue had any response from the racing industry or Minister around that?
