Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (11 Jul 2024)

Catherine Murphy: Which one is it?

Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (11 Jul 2024)

Catherine Murphy: It had to do with Castletown. I doubt we will be given the legal advice but we did ask for some additional information last week. That is probably the extent of what we will get. There is one item of note. What instruction was given to OPW valuers with regard to Castletown?

Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (11 Jul 2024)

Catherine Murphy: I teased it out a little bit. I believe the Department agreed to give us the information I was looking for but it is not as clear-cut as I thought it was. I am happy to wait to see what it sends us.

Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (11 Jul 2024)

Catherine Murphy: Did I not flag the correspondence regarding Tusla and Children's Health Ireland?

Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (11 Jul 2024)

Catherine Murphy: I will be very brief. We are all aware of the money that was allocated for a specific purpose and was then not spent on that purpose. It would be worth our while to write to CHI to ask how that decision was made.

Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (11 Jul 2024)

Catherine Murphy: I will raise a second issue very quickly. Tusla came back to us with the number of children and young people reported missing. A footnote states that they were in non-statutory, non-regulated and non-procured placements. We understand that non-statutory means that it was not a State agency. It jumps out at me that these placements were non-regulated and non-procured. How can a placement...

Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (11 Jul 2024)

Catherine Murphy: If we are adding another meeting to that list, Children's Health Ireland is one that comes to mind. CHI will also have responsibility for the national paediatric hospital and there are a few issues there that would be worth discussing with it. How money is allocated and spent is certainly an area I would like to explore further with it.

Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (11 Jul 2024)

Catherine Murphy: Yes. I am very anxious that we do not push Uisce Éireann down much further because the amount of money involved is gigantic.

Public Accounts Committee: Business of Committee (11 Jul 2024)

Catherine Murphy: That is fine.

Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: Renewable Energy Generation (11 Jul 2024)

Maurice Quinlivan: I thank the Minister of State. Regarding offshore energy, many companies and people are making great strides already in this field. I commend Shannon-Foynes Port for the work it has done to date and for its Vision 2041 strategy that laid out in detail many of the challenges and potential available from offshore energy, especially in the mid-west region. The port is in proximity to the...

Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: Renewable Energy Generation (11 Jul 2024)

Dara Calleary: I thank the Deputy. I acknowledge his work, the work of the Joint Committee on Enterprise, Trade and Employment and its report on this space in 2023. We are focused on this. Our Department is working through our regional enterprise committees right across the country to identify the opportunities, and especially looking at ports to identify the infrastructure we need. It is vital we are...

Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: Renewable Energy Generation (11 Jul 2024)

Maurice Quinlivan: I thank the Minister of State. As I have said before, the development of offshore wind energy can be our generation's Ardnacrusha moment. We either act now or fall behind our competitors, which are basically Scotland, Germany and other countries. We can harness this energy and export the excess Ireland does not need or we can import it from abroad. That is the choice we are facing. It is...
