Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: An Ghaeltacht (19 Sep 2024)

Thomas Byrne: Táim an-eolach faoi na dúshláin atá ann do dhaoine áitiúla i gceantair Gaeltachta tithíocht a chur ar fáil agus a fháil ar phraghas réasúnta. Seo dúshlán atá níos leithne ná an Ghaeltacht féin ar ndóigh agus tá an Rialtas seo an-ghníomhach sa réimse seo, mar is léir ó líon...

Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: An Ghaeltacht (19 Sep 2024)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: Gabhaim buíochas leis an Aire agus fáiltím roimh aon dul chun cinn maidir leis na tithe turasóireachta gearrthéarmacha, Airbnb is a leithéid. Is dea-rud a bheidh ann má tá srianta le bheith curtha orthu le gur féidir le pobal na Gaeltachta teacht ar dídean nó tithe níos buaine ná mar atá acu, má tá siad á...

Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: An Ghaeltacht (19 Sep 2024)

Thomas Byrne: Gabhaim buíochas leis an Teachta. Tá neart oibre ar siúl maidir leis na treoirlínte seo agus go deimhin, is an Roinn tithíochta a eiseoidh iad. Tá siad ag obair inár dteannta maidir leo. Tá an cheist seo casta, b'fhéidir nach bhfuil freagra amháin don fhadhb seo, b'fhéidir go bhfuil níos mó ná freagra amháin air....

Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: An Ghaeltacht (19 Sep 2024)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: Táimid ar fad den tuairim go bhfuil gá le níos mó tithíocht sa Ghaeltacht agus gur gá dúinn aire a thabhairt nach bhfuilimid ag déanamh an timpeallacht a scriosadh. Is féidir linn an méid seo a dhéanamh. Is é sin an fáth gur gheall an Aire tithíochta go mbeadh na treoirlínte ar fáil. Gach uair a chuirim ceist...

Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: An Ghaeltacht (19 Sep 2024)

Thomas Byrne: Mar a dúirt mé tá an cheist seo casta agus tá rudaí atá fós le plé maidir leis seo. Eiseofar na treoirlínte seo ón Roinn tithíochta ach gan aon amhras tá baint ag an roinn s’againne leo agus táimid ag obair go hinmheánach ag plé na ceisteanna seo. Tá teagmháil idir an dá Roinn agus tá an...

Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: Arts Policy (19 Sep 2024)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: 2. To ask the Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht if she will direct the Arts Council to recognise comedy, musical theatre, fashion design and storytelling as artforms and to ensure their development is within its remit, as is her right under section 5(3) of the Arts Act 2003; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [37065/24]

Ceisteanna ar Sonraíodh Uain Dóibh - Priority Questions: Arts Policy (19 Sep 2024)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh: This question relates to the need to recognise comedy, musical theatre, fashion design and storytelling as art forms and to direct the Arts Council to do that so that those who are artists involved in those art forms can apply for and be granted grants and encouragement that they have not got. I believe this is the Minister's right under section 5(3) of the Arts Act 2003.

Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: School Funding (18 Sep 2024)

Mick Barry: So the Minister of State can hire from October-----

Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: School Funding (18 Sep 2024)

Anne Rabbitte: Let us be clear. If they are successful in coming through the pilot at the end of October and I am supportive of funding private therapist capacity, I will request that it is brought forward, as opposed to waiting until October.

Road Projects

Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Road Projects (18 Sep 2024)

Danny Healy-Rae: I am glad to get the opportunity to raise again the proposed Killarney bypass. I have raised this matter several times in this Chamber since I was elected to it in 2016. The Minister was in the Black Valley in Kerry last Friday. It was good to see a Minister in the Black Valley because it is a very remote place and we are glad that connectivity has improved with the launch of broadband in...

Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Road Projects (18 Sep 2024)

Ossian Smyth: It was a pleasure to meet the Deputy in Killarney at the Black Valley last week when fibre broadband was being connected to the Black Valley. This is a sign of the Government's commitment to bring good infrastructure all around the country, including Kerry and Killarney. I thank the Deputy for giving a very detailed geography of the issues facing people using the existing road and the need...

Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Road Projects (18 Sep 2024)

Danny Healy-Rae: I welcome the assertion that the route will be defined by the end of the year, it is hoped by the end of October. This defined route would mean a lot to so many people because their lands have been sterilised all these years. I am concerned because we do need €1.5 million next year. I am sorry to say the Green Party spokesperson from Kenmare said that Killarney does not need a...

Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: School Funding (18 Sep 2024)

Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire: First, I apologise on behalf of Deputy Gould, who was included in this but who is sick with the flu and cannot make it. I, Deputy Barry, Deputy Pádraig O'Sullivan and several others, including Deputy Gould, were at a meeting in St. Killian's last week. It was a powerful meeting. Parents should not have to be in this situation but they gave us such testimony about the difference that...

Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: School Funding (18 Sep 2024)

Anne Rabbitte: I thank the Deputies for raising this important issue for discussion. As Minister of State with responsibility for disabilities, I remain fully committed to the continued development and enhancement of our children’s disability services. This includes school-based therapy supports for special schools, including St. Killian’s in Cork and across the country. I met with the...

Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: School Funding (18 Sep 2024)

Mick Barry: Last November, the Minister of State made a promise and she has not delivered on that promise. The Minister of State owes this school. The Minister of State owes these children. They have an ask and I am asking the Minister of State to reply to this. They are asking for sufficient funding to hire the therapists even if it is only for a few months before the Minister of State gets them...

Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: School Funding (18 Sep 2024)

Pádraig O'Sullivan: I seek one point of clarification from the script the Minister of State read. It surrounds the provision of private therapies. Towards the end of the Minister of State's script it states that she remains supportive of the use of available private capacity, and the funding of same. Obviously, that is attached to the proviso that those schools which have the chance of getting private...

Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: School Funding (18 Sep 2024)

Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire: In this place, we understand one needs good governance, schemes and structures but, as the parents have said, there used to be therapists. Until 2019, there were therapists in the school. What they also said, as did the staff and the children, is that they were given a commitment and told to go away and find the therapists. How do we find a way forward in relation to this? How do we make...

Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: School Funding (18 Sep 2024)

Anne Rabbitte: I take it the Deputies are all asking the same question, and "Yes" is the answer. I repeat that, in regard to the provision of private therapies for children with disabilities, the Government and I remain supportive of the use of available private capacity, and the funding of same. This is only possible for schools which are part of the pilot. We will name the ten additional schools by the...
