Oireachtas sectoral committees have the power to scrutinise such proposals at a much earlier stage. Scrutiny is happening at every level. The real trick is to get involved upstream when the law is being scrutinised and developed between the European Council and the European Parliament. That is obviously the place where most of the work should be done, including by this Oireachtas, rather than after the fact-----
