Martin Conway: The issue the committee has is that when we receive the documentation, even if it is a draft that requires refinement, we feel that, in the interests of transparency, we should be able to publish what is provided to us, even as a draft.

Martin Conway: I welcome that the Minister has acknowledged that a cost of €4.5 million to the taxpayer is unacceptable. The role of this committee is to limit, as much as possible, this type of unnecessary infringement and cost to taxpayers.

Martin Conway: I thank the Minister of State. The experience of democracy we are going to see in Limerick in the next couple of weeks will be very interesting. Once it is over the line and we see the Mayor of Limerick in operation and that person fulfilling his or her mandate, every county will want a directly elected mayor. I thank Senator Lombard.

Martin Conway: Mr. Devane stated that one of the more pleasant elements was going through the pages of Sláintecare. He must be disappointed at the lack of progress in that regard, in spite of the pandemic. We understand that a pandemic causes difficulties, but he must be frustrated regarding the snail’s pace of progress relating to Sláintecare.
