Select Committee on Health: Estimates for Public Services 2024
Vote 38 - Health (Supplementary)
(16 Oct 2024)

Colm Burke: There is €1.5 million additional funding for task forces. The funding will support a co-ordination role of 24 drugs and alcohol task forces across the country including the increased demand for services, especially for due to the use of cocaine. There is an increase but other initiatives are being started.

Select Committee on Health: Estimates for Public Services 2024
Vote 38 - Health (Supplementary)
(16 Oct 2024)

Colm Burke: We are working on a number of projects. For instance, I am working on one project where we talk about transferring a whole lot of services out from night support facilities to a day centre. We are talking about doing that. As I outlined earlier, the supervised injection facility will open in December. There are a number-----

Select Committee on Health: Estimates for Public Services 2024
Vote 38 - Health (Supplementary)
(16 Oct 2024)

Colm Burke: That is a fair point because I met someone else yesterday who is in a totally different area and again it is annual rather than multi-annual funding and it is something we need to look at. I have only been in the Department for the last six months and this is an issue that has come up in a number of cases and is something we need to look at, how we can make that decision about it being...

Select Committee on Health: Estimates for Public Services 2024
Vote 38 - Health (Supplementary)
(16 Oct 2024)

Colm Burke: Yes, it needs to be looked at and I fully accept that.

Select Committee on Health: Estimates for Public Services 2024
Vote 38 - Health (Supplementary)
(16 Oct 2024)

Colm Burke: I fully accept what the Chair is saying. For instance, with regard to the issue of intimidation the Garda has now appointed more than 30 inspectors throughout the country specifically to deal with the issue of intimidation. In my constituency people have come in to me who are being intimidated by drug dealers. We have appointed 30 Garda inspectors specifically to deal with that issue. ...

Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Noise Pollution (16 Oct 2024)

Eamon Ryan: I do know the area. My grandfather grew up there. We had a family farm just on the other side of the Glantane and I absolutely accept what the Deputy is saying about the impact of noise, particularly. It is often forgotten about or it is slightly abstract but it has a huge impact on people’s quality of life and health so it is a real issue. I will read the response I have...

Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Noise Pollution (16 Oct 2024)

Catherine Connolly: There is usually a copy of the script in the Chamber but unfortunately there is no copy of that response.

Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Noise Pollution (16 Oct 2024)

Eamon Ryan: No. I will ask my private secretary to bring a copy.

Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Noise Pollution (16 Oct 2024)

Pádraig O'Sullivan: To address the Minister’s questions, there is provision for replacement surfacing in the immediate areas around the Dunkettle interchange as part of its upgrade in recent years. That is still ongoing. On the Ringaskiddy project and the noise action plans that have been prepared for that, that is on the south side of the river so I do not know whether the remit of the noise action...

Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Noise Pollution (16 Oct 2024)

Eamon Ryan: I am interested in whether the resurfacing as part the Dunkettle upgrade has had an impact. That is why mapping is important to measure before and after and I do not know whether that extends as far east. I mentioned the Ringaskiddy development because it is likely to increase the volume of traffic and, potentially, heavy goods vehicles, which are even noisier in terms of their weight they...

Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Traffic Management (16 Oct 2024)

John Lahart: I made the point that we can do both. The Minister mentioned leadership, which is why I raised this issue with him today. I would like him to write to South Dublin County Council to initiate a task force involving not only the council and the NTA, but also local community stakeholders, such as schools and businesses. These roads are not half as congested when schools are not open. We need...

Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Traffic Management (16 Oct 2024)

Eamon Ryan: As it happens, I am meeting the NTA later this morning so I will raise this and will push for it to look at south Dublin. On another point, the Deputy is right about focusing on making it safe for our children to take the bus, walk or cycle to school. On days like today, when traffic tends to be bad and the weather is not great, 30% of the morning rush-hour traffic is children being driven...

Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Noise Pollution (16 Oct 2024)

Noise Pollution

Saincheisteanna Tráthúla - Topical Issue Debate: Noise Pollution (16 Oct 2024)

Pádraig O'Sullivan: I have previously raised in the House the issue of noise mitigation measures along motorways in general. It is particularly pertinent for me because I live 500 m from the Dunkettle interchange and over the years, with the increasing volume of traffic on the motorway and in the surrounding areas, noise has become a definite issue for people. This matter also relates to Harper’s...
