Seanad: Order of Business (15 Nov 2018)

Rose Conway Walsh: ...was part of a delegation of parties representing the pro-remain majority in the North. The four parties the Taoiseach met this morning represent the majority view of citizens in the North. The DUP does not, and that is a fact. DUP representatives have been using the most incendiary, rash and ostentatious rhetoric in the past 48 hours, but ordinary citizens in the North, whether...

Rose Conway Walsh: ...even the aggregate impact of it, why it is not making a difference in people's pockets. One can go back to the 23% which I do not want to do, but when one deals with averages, one knows that this does not mean anything to many people. It still seems, from looking at all of the recommendations, that all of the cards are still with the insurance industry. That was what we spent weeks and...

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Quarterly Update on Health Issues: Discussion (14 Nov 2018)

Rose Conway Walsh: If a person does not get his or her file after that time, what action should be taken? If he or she has requested it from the hospital but not received it, where should he or she go to next?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health: Quarterly Update on Health Issues: Discussion (14 Nov 2018)

Rose Conway Walsh: ...with the second application. I welcome the fact that the legal case was taken off the table to facilitate this happening. I hope it will be a positive result. I must also ask about Spinraza. Does the Minister know that some of the spinal muscular atrophy sufferers have been hospitalised and have been in intensive care waiting for the decision on Spinraza? When can we expect that?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Sale of Property Loans (Project Glas) By Permanent TSB: Discussion (11 Oct 2018)

Rose Conway Walsh: Does Mr. Masding not think that the banks played a big part in that, banks like Permanent TSB, in reckless lending in the first instance and then when people were losing their jobs and being put into those financial situations because of the nationalising of the private debt of the banks? We have to look at the causes and ask why the level of non-performing loans is as high as it is. The...

Rose Conway Walsh: ...from the European Central Bank to our MEP, Mr. Matt Carthy, as to how a non-performing loan can be turned into a performing one. If someone goes into the bank today with arrears that are owed, does the bank accept those arrears? If they continue to pay the interest and the original loan over a 12-month period, they will automatically come out of the non-performing category. Is that correct?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Sale of Property Loans (Project Glas) By Permanent TSB: Discussion (11 Oct 2018)

Rose Conway Walsh: ..."broadly" part that concerns me because it creates an ambiguity. Let us suppose a customer owes €5,000 in arrears on the mortgage and goes into the bank today. Will the bank accept the sum? Does it ever refuse it?

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Sale of Property Loans (Project Glas) By Permanent TSB: Discussion (11 Oct 2018)

Rose Conway Walsh: What does Mr. O'Sullivan mean by saying once the bank is satisfied about where the funds have come from? Surely, it does not matter as long as it is legal. It is not the bank's job to see where the funds have come from.

Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach: Sale of Property Loans (Project Glas) By Permanent TSB: Discussion (11 Oct 2018)

Rose Conway Walsh: The European Central Bank does not say that customers have to be back paying the original terms of the mortgage. I propose that the committee should contact the ECB again after today's hearing and seek clarification on some of the points that we have not received clarity on today.
