Health Services: Motion (Resumed) (23 Apr 2008)

John Moloney: I welcome the motion and recognise the sincerity of Deputy Kathleen Lynch in moving it. I recognise that it is not the usual political motion. It is obvious a national strategy should be put in place, rather than relying on one centre, although we know of the excellence of the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Dún Laoghaire over many years. Times have moved on, however, and while we...

My main worry is not 19,000 votes the next time but possibly twice that number because of what is happening here today. I am delighted to be in the Chamber as a Member of this Dáil to see our colleague from Laois-Offaly, Deputy Brian Cowen, becoming Taoiseach....

John Moloney: Operational responsibility for the management and delivery of health and personal social services was assigned to the Health Service Executive under the Health Act 2004 and funding for all health services has been provided as part of its overall vote. Cancer Services: Motion (Resumed) (21 May 2008)

John Moloney: This debate reminds me of the cancer debate that took place in the midlands during the 1990s. The difference is that the then Minister, Deputy Michael Noonan, outlined that strategy and his Government's Deputies and councillors opposed it. Consequently this debate is nothing new. It pertains to independent medical advice from the National Cancer Forum, which I fully support this evening as...

Cancer Services: Motion (Resumed) (21 May 2008)

Cancer Services: Motion (Resumed) (21 May 2008)

John Moloney: For the information of Deputy McCormack, the 23 members of that forum are independent people.
