Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health

Update on Neurorehabilitation Healthcare, Primary Care Centre Programme and CAMHS: HSE

Dr. Amanda Burke:

I would be concerned if that were the case because it is very important in terms of viewing a young person to have the full picture. I would be concerned if that were the case. Sometimes young people are referred to the area that has the lowest waiting lists. Someone might arrive somewhere saying they have anxiety and then when we see the young person they clearly have a diagnosis of autism. The autism-specific supports are provided by a different service. It is up to us to work together, which is what we are doing through the single point of access. That should not be for parents to navigate; it should be navigated at a professional level.
